LGBTQIA+ Health Resources Overview

The goal of this guide is to provide students and faculty a starting point for learning and teaching about LGBTQIA+ cultural competencies for healthcare professionals. The resources listed on this guide focus primarily on the US context.

In January 2020, the MCPHS Libraries received a Social Infrastructure Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (ILMS), with which we were able to buy a number of documentaries: "Finding Kim," "Gen-Silent: A documentary about LGBT Aging," "Transforming Healthcare: Transgender Cultural Competency for Medical Providers" and "Crystal Meth." One of the goals of this grant is to raise awareness of mental health issues of LGBTQIA+ people.  This is of particular concern to healthcare professionals who serve a variety of patient populations. LGBTQIA+ people face particular stigma and obstacles in the receiving of healthcare and are more than twice as likely as heterosexual adults to experience a mental health condition.
