Update: Video Editor is no longer available by default on Windows 10 or 11, but can still be accessed through the "Photos Legacy" app available from Microsoft. Please refer to our quick video walk-through to see how to install the Photos Legacy app and then access Video Editor within it.
As we are shifting a good deal of our educational focus to online learning while dealing with the COVID-19 crisis, a number of faculty have expressed interest in creating video content to make available to their students. While many faculty members have access to basic tools to record and post video, a number have asked if there are tools they can use to edit the video demonstrations they are creating. One resource Media Production has been pointing faculty to is Windows 10’s built-in Video Editor app. It’s a program many of us will already have, is easy-to-use, and full-featured enough to handle the basic editing needs of most faculty. The video demonstrations below will deal with just three basic tasks that should cover the majority of people’s needs during this time. First, we will demonstrate how to combine multiple videos into one continuous file. Second, we will show how to edit out unwanted content at the beginning and end of a video. Finally, we will demonstrate how to edit out unwanted portions in the middle of a video while retaining the content around it. If you have any questions about this resource, please feel free to contact us at media.production@mcphs.edu.
