Welcome to the Black History Month LibGuide!
In this guide, you will find information and resources about Black History Month, and resources supporting each year's theme. The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) selects a theme for Black History Month each year. According to ASALH, "For those interested in the study of identity and ideology, an exploration of ASALH’s Black History themes is itself instructive. Over the years, the themes reflect changes in how people of African descent in the United States have viewed themselves, the influence of social movements on racial ideologies, and the aspirations of the Black community."

This video from Stanford historian Michael Hines discusses the beginnings and the evolution of Black History Month.
On this guide we have included some resources that we recommend, but are not available through the MCPHS Libraries. For these resources, we have set up the links to redirect to the Boston Public Library, as many members of the MCPHS community are able to use their resources. If you are not able to use the Boston Public Library, feel free to find these resources at your own library!
