Introducing: MCPHS Reading Groups!

Would you like to ….

· Meet new colleagues and share ideas about the work we do?

· Join colleagues in exploring how we can continue to develop – as teachers, mentors, colleagues,  and a whole community?

· Read something that reaches beyond your faculty or staff role – but that can help you be better at what you do?

If you said YES to any of these, we encourage you to join an MCPHS Reading Group!

We’re organizing reading groups for interested faculty & staff during the Fall semester. All MCPHS faculty and staff are welcome to participate!  These informal, cross-disciplinary groups will meet in-person, online or both, to discuss a book related to teaching/learning or to higher education. We have selected 4 potential books for the reading groups:

How We Learn: The Surprising Truth About When, Where and Why It Happens by Benedict Carey

Mindset by Carol Dweck

The Heart of Higher Education: A Call to Renewal by Parker Palmer & Arthur Zajonc

The Years That Matter Most: How College Makes or Breaks Us by Paul Tough

Let us know of your interest by responding to a brief survey   MCPHS Reading Group Survey

Some additional information….

  • Based on how many people respond and their level of interest, we'll decide which books to tackle this Fall and the number/size/format of the reading groups.
  • Each group will focus on 1 book and will run through the Fall term.
  • Those who agree to read the book and join the discussions will be provided with a copy of the book they select.
  • Participants will be placed into smaller groups to facilitate engagement.  Groups will be set prior to book distributions
  • Groups will be self-directed and self-facilitated. We’ll provide info and resources to assist.

If you have any questions, please email Jeanine Mount, Jeanine.Mount@mcphs.edu.
