MCPHS Smart Search at a Glance

What is MCPHS Smart Search?

MCPHS Smart Search allows you to search across the Library's collections and includes:

  • Books, ebooks, videos and streaming media in the MCPHS collection.
  • Articles from journals, newspapers, and magazines.
  • Legal, government and company information

Why search MCPHS Smart Search?

MCPHS Smart Search pools the information from many of the library's databases. It is good for:

  • Quick searches
  • Exploring a topic
  • Interdisciplinary topics
  • Helping you decide which specific databases might be useful for your topic.

Why search a specific database?

  • Specific databases curate content for a specific discipline or subject.
    • You do not have to include that idea in your search.
    • You have to worry less about words that have different meanings in different contexts, such as nursing or stress.
  • Specific databases have specialized tools to help you find what you want. They may have:
    • their own terminology (subject headings)
    • filters
    • annotation or citation features
